COUNTY UNDER 13 CHAMPION
Friday, May 18, 2012 Posted by Lance
So we had to go and do a play off with EVERYONE watching.
Wow, it was stressing, but so exciting as well and such a fantastic experience.
So sudden death,.... first hole a long par 4. Ooops not good for me up against the longest hitter in the category. I pulled out my best drive of the day and he still overhit me by 10 metres !! My 3 wood was good too but I knew it was impossible to get on the green and I was short another 10 metres. He was on the green safely in the middle in two.
So it came down to my chipping and I pulled the trigger, text book stuff to 1 metre - pphhhweww.
He putted inside my ball giving me a nervy one, but I put it straight in.
ALL Square. On to the next one which was a 153m (170 yard par 3).
I had no choice but had to hit driver as there was no way I was going to get over the bunker in front of the green with my 3 wood. I hit first, straight and long, cleared the bunker - landed on the green leaving me a putt albeit a long one. My friend hit a 3 wood with a bit too much draw (must have been the stress) and it finished in the green side rough. He chipped out and left it short on the green. I knew I had to finish it with another long par 4 to come. I hit a great putt to 5 cms. Very happy - tap in for a par.
SO, it all came down to his putt to save the par and take it to the next hole. He went for it but it slid by.
Giving me a play off victory and the title of Under 13 County Champion.
Happy is an understatement. What a great feeling. What a great tournament. What a great Game.
LOVE GOLF.

LE TOUQUET - UNDER 13 YEAR OLD QUALIFIERS
Thursday, May 10, 2012 Posted by Lance
This was two rounds on the difficult but beautiful "forest" course.
Despite awful weather, never playing the course before and getting a 2 shot penalty on the 2nd hole (not replacing a ball marker in the correct position - doooohh - I learnt from that mistake !!) I managed to get an 84 in the first round. I was just disappointed that for the few holes my coach followed me on, I totally freaked out and did a triple and a double bogey!
Second round was much tidier, with two back-to-back birdies and a total round of 80.
So at the half way stage of the first qualifier I am in second position : Qualifier N°2 is next week at Brigode.
So next week i am hunting birdies, an elusive hole-in-one and of course I want to come first !!
TRAINING - WITH THE COUNTY
Thursday, April 26, 2012 Posted by Lance
AND I did even step foot on a golf course :-(
However, I will be spending all this coming weekend with 11 others from my county (under 13 year olds) as we are practising hard for the inter-county finals in July - based on Ryder Cup four-ball format, should be great fun.
We are twelve (12) though and the team is limited to six players......... I am only 10 yrs old i know, but I want a place on that team !!
CAP BUDDIES
Thursday, April 19, 2012 Posted by Lance
We won a pair a PING hats (hence we are now cap buddies !!).
Our score was a 71 (net 65) and 44 stableford points.
I must say that it was thanks to not only BUSHNELL for their fantastic TOUR V2 gizmo, but also to my brilliant short game. 5 birdies all down to my putter (and one chip in).
Dad - if you are reading this - get practising the short game,....maybe you should think about a belly putter :-)
THANK YOU BUSHNELL !!

Hmmmnnn,.... I see that there is a BUSHNELL stamp and postmark on it......
I start to have a tingly feeling, a dream that could come true, but no - surely not ?
SURPRISE !!!!

Any idea of what it was ??
NEW HANDICAP - 14.7
Thursday, March 29, 2012 Posted by Lance
This one was short but tricky, alot of doglegs, small greens, deep rough, ditches everywhere,.... and we had FOG.
But anway, with my straight drives it suited me and I managed to get 39 points including a birdie - chip in on a par 3 with my 9 iron.
So my handicap is now 14.7 and that seems nice.
This week I had golf school yesterday, today I had a half hour golf lesson during lunch time, Saturday I am playing a 2 ball scramble with my dad (he had better not let me down) and then Sunday I have Golf training with the County junior under 13 group all day !! Golftastic (I just made that word up).
Otherwise I had a GREAT surprise today, but more about that in another Post.

Royal Cromer, Norfolk
Monday, March 19, 2012 Posted by Lance
Royal Cromer has it all : the view, the cliffs, the snaggy rough, the constant wind, the deep bunkers,.....
And this is me last week in full battle against all it could throw at me...... okay thankfully the wind was just a mild blow and the rain was just a feeble drizzle.
But a very enjoyable outing with my dad and Grandad (Happy 72nd birthday !!).
UP PERISCOPE - ROYAL CROMER
Monday, March 19, 2012 Posted by Lance
A peculiarity of the par-4 Hole Number 7 is that when you are on the tee you cannot see the fairway. So the club has installed a periscope that lets you see over the edge of the rise in front of you and down onto the fairway. Ingenious, no ?
TRAINING !
Friday, February 24, 2012 Posted by Lance
A: Practise !!
With the golf course either waterlogger, snow covered or frozen I have been limited to belting balls down the driving range and putting on carpet. But the good thing is that I have kept up the practise what ever the weather throughout the winter period.
So I am ready for Spring and the countdown to the new golf season.
First thing is this weekend a training course run over 2 days by the FFG - the northern golf league for the under 13 years olds. This will be my first real time away from my folks as we will be sleeping over at the golf course where it is run.
I just cannot wait now until the first competition.
